How much does it cost to commission a piece of music?
My flat rate is $250 per audio minute for a traditional ensemble and $50 per audio minute for each additional instrument. On average, I’m commissioned to compose 4-6-minute pieces ranging from $1,100-$2,500. The price can be more or less depending on the duration and instrumentation.
How long will it take you to compose the music?
It takes six to eight weeks to finish a 4-5-minute piece of music. It can take longer depending on the scope of the piece. For example, a 35-40 minute work will take between four and five months or longer to complete. I encourage clients to contact me no later than nine to twelve months prior to an event.
Can I request that you change the music if I don’t like something about it?
I invite clients to listen to the main themes and ideas once the first minute is composed. It’s much easier to make changes early in the process. There’s not as much flexibility in the end to accommodate changes. Check out my recent blog post addressing this topic.
What will I receive when the music is finished?
You will receive a meaningful piece of music that honors your event and/or special person in your life. I will deliver hard copies of the full music score and instrumental parts, a thumb drive with digital copies of the full music score and parts, and a high-quality midi/audio representation of the music. This is everything you need to have your piece performed.
Will you provide the musicians for my event?
My services begin and end with the music composition. I know a lot of musicians in the Atlanta area and I’m happy to make recommendations. Services such as the Atlanta Federation of Musicians and Gigmasters are great places to begin your search. You’ll want to contact your musicians well in advance of your event as schedules fill up quickly!
